Maybe you have heard people say “the money is in the list”? So what exactly does that mean?
OK think about your own personal email address. Do you get any emails from companies maybe every week or two weeks? I’m not talking about spam by the way.
Maybe you bought a book or a product, or maybe you just signed up for helpful emails from a website. Either way, take a look at these emails - ultimately they are designed to try to make you buy more products in the future.
So when people say “the money is in the list”, what they mean is that owning an email list and sending mailshots to your subscribers can earn you money.
In fact, if you do it well, then an average of 50 cents per month income per subscriber can be had. So you might think that 50 cents is nothing. But just imagine if you have 1000 subscribers (not that many really). Well, now if you make the calculation then that could be like 500 bucks per month! All for writing maybe one email per week.
Some people also say that the real phrase is “the money is in your relationship with the list”. This is being a little pedantic because most people do actually mean this when they use the shorter phrase. But what it means is that you need to get a good relationship with your list of subscribers. Treat them well and give them a lot of freebies and value.
If you just constantly sell, sell, sell then people will often get turned off and just unsubscribe from your list.
