All too often, people wonder how to find a good niche? Maybe you start off with one of your interests - that can be great, so long as that niche has big buyers in it - but all too often there are no commercial possibilities. You might as well flip a coin with that strategy.
Find An Existing Market
Why not just find a market that already exists? If you check out Clickbank or PayDotCom then you can already find a list of products out there that are already selling. Don’t reinvent the wheel!
If you are creating a content site and just want to supplement it with ads then the marketplace on Clickbank and PayDotCom is perfect for your needs. I recommend that you find a niche with plenty of products so that you can give your surfers a choice between slightly different products, each with their own unique edge.
Even if you are creating your own product, it’s a good idea to choose a niche where there are already some competitors. There is plenty of room in the market for your product and many site owners out there will welcome an additional product to promote, especially if it has a unique twist.
Check The Stats
Both sites also offer some great stats. You can check the popularity of the products which can be a good idea of how well they sell. It also means that a lot of sites will be selling that product too (more competition) but at least the site is proven to convert surfers into buyers.
PayDotCom has a top sellers category but also scores each product with an APS or affiliate power score. This is an overall quality score based on sales less refunds and the number of unique affiliates.
Clickbank gives more detailed information. As well as being able to sort by popularity you can also get stats for earnings per sale (takes into account refunds and future average earnings) and gravity, a score based on no. of unique affiliates. You can also sort the listings by these indicators.
So don’t reinvent the wheel unless you really have to or have some unique product that will sell and has somehow so far been untapped (rare).
