First, in case you don’t know the difference, here it is:

Article marketing - this is when you write articles of around 300 words and post them to article directories, the biggest of which is EzineArticles. When you post an article here then surfers may click on the link at the bottom of your article and get to your site.

Site articles - this is simply text content on your website. The search engines will index this content and people will come to your site from these search engines.

So which is the better of the two?

I have heard many people say how great article marketing is. There are some internet marketers who are heavy into this area and have a couple thousand articles posted out there and get regular daily traffic and a steady income because of it. Two that come to mind are Steve Wagenheim and Sean Mize.

But what about site articles? You won’t normally get traffic straight away from any articles posted on your site (like this one) but you will eventually get surfers coming to you from the search engines.

So what is clear is that you should use both. This is what others say too. But how useful is this advice? You don’t want to waste your time so you want to use the best ratio of articles posted on directories versus your own site. What is the optimum ratio?

To be honest, I can’t answer that question for you. I presently get a lot of traffic from directories but I also find that it is quite a slow trickle. And don’t forget that for any traffic that those articles get, some of it will leak into the directories own ads.

At least if you post a lot of site content then your site will rank higher in future for being such a hub of important information on a given subject. Also, you will get good targetted traffic, without a doubt and get them to be perhaps only a single click away from a purchase.

So the jury is out on the correct ratio but personally I will be aiming for at least 75% of my new articles to be posted on my own sites, maybe even more.
